Restylane® - (Cosmetic Dermal Filler)
Description
Restylane is a popular solution towards gaining a more youthful appearance. It is a non-animal, biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid (a substance found in the body that provides more volume to the skin). Through tiny injections, Restylane is FDA-approved for smoothing facial folds and wrinkles in areas around the mouth, nose, and eyes. It is also known to add fullness to lips.
Duration
A Few Minutes to a Half Hour
Side Effects
Possible pain, redness, swelling, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the point of injection.
Recovery
During the first 48 hours after treatment, you must monitor your movements. Do not massage or rub the treated area and (if you’ve had had lip enhancement) avoid puckering your lips. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense sunlight or extreme cold.
Risks
To avoid an increased chance of bruising or bleeding, patients considering Restylane should steer clear of aspirin, Vitamin E supplements and other medications. Be sure to ask your doctor about how to prepare for Restylane injections.
Results
Results can be seen immediately; the temporary effect can last up to 6 months (factors like age, skin type, and daily activities can influence how long results will last).
Technology
In tiny amounts, the doctor injects crystal-clear gel into the dermis (middle layer of skin) lifting the wrinkle into the desired correction and creating volume in an area that has a sunken or hollow look. This is an area where hyaluronic acid has decreased.
